Taylor’s highly anticipated “Top Of the Catch” event presents a rare opportunity to own one of Taylor’s heirloom-quality guitars with once-in-a-lifetime customized appointments. Now an annual tradition, Taylor unveils between 40 and 50 customized versions of their most popular styles, adorned with unique inlays, rosettes, purfling, colors, and tonewood combinations on the eve of the NAMM show. Each model is never to be duplicated, and specifications change each year for a truly unique experience. “Catch” models feature a “C” prefix along with the year and custom specifications built into each model designation, denoting its special pedigree.
Taylor T5z styling
In a class of its own and probably the most highly anticipated guitar ever made, the Taylor T5 was officially unveiled on October 5th, 2005. Excited guitarists lined up in droves for a first look at Taylor’s revolutionary Electric/Acoustic Hybrid. Designed to deliver exceptional acoustic and versatile electric guitar performance. Winning both the “Best Acoustic” and “Best Electric” Guitar awards of 2005, the T5 exceeded all expectations. Nearly 20 years and many refinements since its introduction, Taylor’s range of Electric/Acoustic hybrids is more popular than ever and remains a breed apart.
The CT5z #37 is based on the same body, neck, and electronics found on Taylor's refined T5Z specifications. The 2.1” thinline hollow body with a compact 14” lower ‘bout is comfortable and familiar for electric and acoustic-oriented players. Taylor’s T5Z standard neck profile feels much like their famously fast and comfortable acoustic neck, with some “electric guitar-style” performance modifications—such as a 12” radius ‘board for deep bending and the slinky feel of a 24 7/8” scale length. The neck is cut from neo-tropical mahogany and capped with a “Spire”-inlaid Crelicam Ebony ‘board for stability and warmth, with a bright edge.
Unlocking the vast array of acoustic and electric sounds, the T5z is loaded with Taylor’s best and most advanced hybrid pickups and electronics system to date. Acoustic sounds are driven by a magnetic sensor mounted inside the body, which realistically captures the guitar's genuine acoustic qualities. Two electric-style Humbucking pickups (one surface mounted in the bridge position and one concealed under the neck) are well suited for everything from warm cleans to a full roar. Active treble and bass controls add plenty of dimension, and the 5-way toggle allows for blending acoustic and electric sounds for a unique and wide range of sonic flexibility.
CT5z Catch Event #37 special features
Along with all the features that make the T5z-Pro the most advanced and visually stunning Electric/Acoustic Hybrid guitar in Taylor’s catalog, the Catch Event #37 represents an even higher level of perfection.
One look at the top, and you’ll know this Guitar is an extraordinary “catch.” The specially chosen “Big Leaf Maple” has uncommonly bold figures and a rare “dirty grain” character that shines through even dark-colored stains—like the specially formulated “Midnight Sapphire” blue that’s unique to this special edition beauty. The particular “dirty maple” grain is also used in a natural unstained form as body binding and “F-hole” Rosete
The back and sides of this thinline masterwork are made from specially selected and responsibly harvested “Urban Ash.” Also known as Shamel or Evergreen, Urban Ash is denser than the Swamp Ash variety traditionally used on solid-body electric guitars. As a tonewood, Urban Ash is known for its strong, clear, and well-focused tone, which shares much of its sonic fingerprint with high-quality but endangered Honduran Mahogany.
