The Wunder Audio PAFOUR is the 19" rack mount, four-channel microphone preamplifier version of the PEQ1. The PAFOUR is a fully Class-A discrete 1970's-style mic-pre utilizing the exact mic-pre circuit as the PEQ1. The design employs proprietary, custom-designed mic, and output transformers. It is no secret that the huge sound is due to the make-up of the Mu-Metal transformers. In the PAFOUR, you get four channels of the Wunder Audio sound in one unit!

1. The PAFOUR cuts no corners. We have included the same exact transformers from the PEQ1. The mere size of these transformers is unprecedented in a 4-channel mic pre unit. The Core material was made in 1970 and is comprised of 80% nickel, 15% Iron and 4% Cobalt yielding a fat vintage sound with virtually no phase shift. The low turn ratio of the windings (1:1.7) yields a mic pre that can handle very high level with no need for a pad.

2. The Instrument/Line Input circuit includes the complete Line Input stage of the PEQ1R so one can utilize the now famous way of recording, for example DI Bass Guitar, directly into the Line Input of the Wunder, instead of using a direct box approach into the mic pre. This line Input stage has a huge 60 dB of input gain! No other multi-channel mic pre incorporates this Line Input approach with this much gain.

3. New Added output stage. The mic pre is identical to what we use in the PEQ1 series but we added an additional amplifier stage at the tail end of the existing output amp for even more headroom

4. Peak LEDs for each channel.

5. Mic/Line Input Sensitivity switches are the highest quality gold-plated Swiss made switches available. All toggle switches are manufactured by C&K.

6. Electrolytic capacitors are the most popular Panasonic FC 105°C. Vintage-style, rare Polystyrene Foil capacitors are used throughout the amplifier stages. Metal can, not plastic, BC107C and BC109B transistors imported from the UK are used throughout the amplifier stages.

7. Enclosures are CAD designed to 1/1000" tolerance and are black-powder coated. PEM nut hardware is used throughout for solid construction. Unique transformer chassis mounts are used for structural integrity.

8. Custom designed knob sets are milled from aluminum and anodized red. Knob markers are embedded with white plastic dowels so the white mark will never wear off.

The Wunder Audio CM7 Microphone

The Wunder Audio CM7 Tube Microphone comes with the original large-style U47 transformer that was used in the earlier U47's, including the legendary "Large Badge" U47. These first couple of hundred U47's are very sought after sonically. The CM7 transformer's larger size and high nickel content achieves better low end rolling off at 20 Hz, identical to the original U47 design, instead of 40 Hz. The smaller 40 Hz transformer that was used in later versions of the U47 was made with the 40 Hz roll-off as a requirement for the IRT (German Broadcasting Network). In modern day recording this capability to capture the low end frequencies is essential.

The Wunder Audio CM7-GT Microphone

The CM7-GT (Glass Tube) uses a NOS Telefunken glass tube, which replaced the VF14/EF14 in 1960-1979. The CM7-GT has 9 patterns selectable from the PSU. The CM7-GT Circuit is basically the same as the CM7 with extra circuitry added to achieve the remote pattern changing. The CM7-GT use a PCB. The critical high impedance parts are assembled point to point. It also uses the same custom wound "large style" Neumann U47 transformer that we use in the CM7. The CM7-GT uses the identical grille setup as the original U47 and the CM7.

The Wunder Audio CM49 Microphone

The Wunder Audio CM49 Tube Microphone comes with the original AC701K tube and M7 capsule. The M49 was the first condenser microphone capable of remote pattern control, achieved through electronic means. By varying the rear-diaphragm voltage against the backplate reference, a full range of patterns, from omni to cardioid to figure-8, was accomplished. Because the grille is slanted and presents a continuously varying profile to the capsule, there are fewer standing waves generated.

The Wunder Audio CM50 Microphone

The Wunder Audio CM50 Tube Microphone comes with the original AC701K tube and Spherical capsule. "Simply one of the most wonderful sounding room mics in the world." The CM50 represents the pinnacle in a revered line of microphones that stretches back to the very earliest days of the Pro Audio. The inspiration is classic, the execution is cutting-edge. We have successfully recreated the small pressure transducer (similar to the capsule for the KM series microphones) embedded in the surface of a 40 mm diameter Lucite sphere.
